Updated 12/22/1998. Postgresql requires a LOT of configuration. I have included the INSTALL file here and have marked the steps that I have done with a comment in red. I have made the only those steps that require compiling the code. You MUST read this INSTALL page and the documentation in the /usr/local/pgsql/doc and man subdirectories before you install the software. It is particulary important to understand the need for creation of the postgres user before the installation of the files. Go to the web sites below and study them before installation. I cannot help with installation except to potentially correct any compilation or packaging problems.
